Aims and scope

This open access journal broadens understanding of social impact. The AACSB has described societal impact as encompassing “…activities undertaken by business schools that over time lead to meaningful, discernible change for the betterment of people, economies and the environment” (AACSB and Societal Impact: Aligning With the AACSB 2020 Business Accreditation Standards, February 2023, p.2).

The Journal of Social Impact in Business Research (JSIBR) increases the understanding of researchers in respect of social impact and provides a forum to evaluate situations where impact has or hasn’t been achieved and facilitates learning from these examples. The journal raises awareness of key issues and builds bridges between the various stakeholders in relation to social impact – scholars, professionals, policy makers, end users.

The journal publishes research that develops theory on the social impact of business research or demonstrates the social impact of business research. The scope includes seven key disciplines associated with business schools:

  1. Accounting and finance
  2. Entrepreneurship
  3. Economics
  4. Information systems
  5. International business
  6. Marketing
  7. Management.

The Journal of Social Impact in Business Research publishes articles that:

  • Conceptualise, define and measure social impact of business research. This includes articles that develop new theories and frameworks for understanding social impact in business research, as well as articles that develop and validate new methods for measuring social impact in business research.
  • Analyse the social impact of business research interventions, programmes, or policies. This includes articles that assess the effectiveness of business research social interventions, as well as articles that identify the mechanisms through which interventions produce their impact.
  • Explore the social impact of broader business phenomena and trends, such as globalisation, climate change, population movement and technological innovation. This includes articles that examine the social consequences of these business phenomena, as well as articles that identify opportunities to mitigate negative social impacts and promote positive social impacts.

The article processing charge (APC) will be waived for content submitted to this journal before 01 July 2025.
