Aims and scope

Workplace health management concerns the application of a range of disciplines to managing and improving the health, well-being, and performance of individuals, groups, and organizations. International Journal of Workplace Health Management (IJWHM) aims to enhance our knowledge of how workplace health can be monitored, protected, and promoted in daily practice and the contribution of research in this endeavor. The field draws from a broad range of disciplines, including management and organization, occupational safety, public health, medicine, organizational/industrial psychology, ergonomics, human resource management, organizational science, health economics, and intervention science.

IJWHM is a key resource for practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers who are interested in or tasked with supporting health in work settings. We support articles that present research that is rigorous and relevant for research and practice into workplace health management. Please also see the Editorials for updates on research directions, aims, and scope of the Journal.

We especially welcome:

  • Articles describing new approaches to managing workplace health including individual, workplace, and government policy approaches
  • Articles on designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, with evaluation focusing on target outcomes, the implementation process, and economic evaluation
  • Articles focusing on the practical side of implementing theory and knowledge in the field
  • Articles that take into account diversity and inclusion and the experiences of different work groups
  • Articles developed jointly by researchers and practitioners

We welcome a range of type of papers:

  • Research papers (empirical or conceptual)
  • Editorials (by invitation only)
  • Practitioner papers

“The International Journal of Workplace Health Management will provide a very much needed journal in the health and wellbeing field.  We urgently need to know more about ‘work works’ in workplace health and wellbeing, and this journal will fill this gap and help us find solutions to enhancing health at work. I strongly support this journal and wish it well in the future”.
Professor Sir Cary Cooper, CBE, 50th Anniversary Professor of Organizational Psychology and Health, ALLIANCE Manchester Business School
