The Contribution of Ocean Carbon Sinks to Climate Change Mitigation

Closes:
Submission deadline date: 30 April 2025

Introduction

International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management (IJCCSM) is delighted to announce a special issue focusing on The Contribution of Ocean Carbon Sinks to Climate Change Mitigation. Halfway through Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, only 15% of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been reached. Adopting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires balancing sustainable growth with the fight against climate change. Identifying the precise role of ocean carbon sinks in combating climate change is imperative. It is essential to explore viable strategies and actions that could expedite the fulfilment of the SDGs based on the contribution of ocean carbon sinks within the stipulated timeframe.

List of topic areas

Proposed topics include but are not limited to:

  • Ocean carbon sinks across nations: Status, limitations, and challenges
  • Impact assessment of scientific advances (e.g., Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions) on climate change adaptation
  • The integration of science, information, and policy relating ocean carbon sinks
  • Integrated coastal management and land-sea carbon flow
  • Designing inclusive climate policies for ocean carbon sinks in the face of uncertainty
  • Trading policies and climate action: How to boost ocean carbon sequestration
  • The development of a common shared set of rules and guidelines for ocean carbon sinks: A roadmap
  • Developing regional (and subnational) strategies and initiatives for ocean carbon sinks and climate change mitigation
  • Assessing the potential and challenges of ocean carbon sinks for a sustainable future
