Artificial intelligence has become a topical issue for many family businesses due to the uncertainty around its usage and implementation. Recently the rapid advances in artificial intelligence have made it a reality for many businesses so it is important to consider how family businesses as a distinct type of family business are utilising it. This special journal issue will focus on broad issues related to artificial intelligence including the use of augmented, virtual and mixed reality by family businesses as well as the usage of the metaverse and alternative online worlds. Systematic reviews, new theoretical and conceptual articles related to artificial intelligence in family businesses are encouraged as well as empirical articles that can incorporate a range of methodological approaches.
