African Real Estate Investment

Introduction

There is an increased interest in real estate investment on the African continent. The interest in real estate investment in Africa is spurred by economic growth, which is higher than the global average, an explosion in the continent’s population growth, with the youngest population in the world, an increase in infrastructure development, and the fastest urbanization growth in the world. These factors have contributed to the steady growth in the African real estate market, with a projected worth of US$15.98 trillion by 2024 (CNBC Africa, 2024). In this special issue, we are keen to encourage papers that discuss and explore the maturity of the various markets in terms of real estate investment opportunities and issues, property valuation and an exploration of market drivers that impact upon property pricing and analysis. African real estate markets are well placed to develop, grow and benefit from the prospects of cross-border intra-African and international investment.

The main thrust of all papers should be practical implementation and research that can be used in real life investment decision making. Purely descriptive papers are discouraged; the guest editor will want to see papers with insights and real-world applications that give insights into particular phenomena in real estate investment peculiar to Africa. Please take note of the following requirements if you wish to have your paper considered for this Special Issue:

• All papers must relate to the use of judgments in real estate investment and valuation.
• Quantitative, qualitative, and theoretical research approaches may be employed.
• The content of the paper must conform to the terms of reference of the Journal of Property Investment & Finance
• All papers submitted will be subject to the normal double anonymous refereeing process undertaken by the journal.
• Submitted papers must not be under review by any other journal.
• Articles must be analytic and rigorous, not merely descriptive.
