Pride 2023

Pride in our publishing, our staff and our communities

For research to have a real impact, it must be inclusive – shaped by diverse voices at every stage. We are committed to supporting diversity in the work we publish, in our workforce, and in wider society.

To mark Pride month, we've gathered together research from across our books, journals, and cases and made it free for you to read and share. Deepening the understanding of current issues in the LGBTQIA+ communities is just one of many ways we can all help to advance equity.

Free access articles, case papers & book chapters

This collection of freely available research and book chapters takes a look at discrimination, queer and trans youth, public perceptions, corporate decisions on LGBTQIA+ friendliness, customer harassment against LGBTQIA+ workers and much more.

Make us the home for your research

Here at Emerald, we can work together to make your research far-reaching and impactful. We will offer you the freedom to explore topics and subjects that need a spotlight and which will engage society in a new and responsible way.

If you have an idea for a monograph, a handbook or a new book series, or you are interested in discussing other ways to disseminate your research, please get in touch with our Diversity and Inclusion Commissioning Editor Daniel Ridge.

I believe in the transformative power of equal opportunities. From the legacy of past movements to the progress of legal and social reforms, we have witnessed the unstoppable momentum towards fairness and inclusivity. Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are not just concepts, but beacons guiding our path to a better society. Our publications seek to embrace the broadened scope of equal opportunities, encompassing sex, race, disability, age, and more. I believe through EDI we can explore, challenge, and reshape societal norms and create a world where everyone thrives.

Our stance

Research is at the forefront of pushing society forward, by getting it into the hands of those making the decisions that drive change.

We know research is most impactful when a diverse range of voices are included and recognise that as a publisher, we also need to take decisive action to change the status quo. This is why we champion furthering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through activities that prioritise research aligned to real world challenges, support underrepresented researchers, and gives all voices an opportunity to be heard and understood.

We also consistently invest our time and resources to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and accessible by embedding accountability and ownership across the business.

As a business, our action plan for diversity, inclusion and accessibility is driven by an Inclusion Lead and an empowered network of employees across the business. In 2023 we were highly commended in the 2023 Alison Morrison Diversity and Inclusivity Award, part of the Independent Publishing Awards. The award recognises efforts to make our industry more diverse and inclusive, both internally and through the content that is published, with the judges commenting "Emerald is committing time and resources to making sure the workplace is inclusive. They’ve cemented inclusivity across the whole business."
