Publish your open research collection with us

Publish on Emerald Open Research, our open research platform that supports easy, rapid and transparent publishing.

Do you want to disseminate your research to a wider audience and demonstrate societal impact?

Partnering with us to launch your own open research collection on the Emerald Open Research platform could help you get there!

The Emerald Open Research platform publishes content aligned to the UN SDGs and provides a quick way to publish a range of research outputs.

What is a collection on Emerald Open Research?

A collection is a set of research relating to a specific community, institution academic society or conference. They sit alongside our existing gateways on Emerald Open Research. Collections can include both traditional outputs such as articles and non-traditional outputs such as policy briefs.

Sustainable Food Systems Gateway

This gateway aims to address scientific, sociological, political and economic challenges around sustainable food systems. It aims to offer solutions for development and to drive change. We are always looking for new collections to complement this gateway.

Publishing your own collection that aligns to this gateway could enable you to showcase your research outputs and reach both academic and practitioner audiences alike.

What are the benefits of launching your collection?

Increased visibility of your research

All research published within a collection is immediately made available for anyone to read, download, and share. Having a themed collection would increase the discoverability of your research papers, as all findings can be easily accessed at the same time.

Rapid publication and article updates

Once research has passed initial pre-publication checks it can be published on the platform within days. This allows crucial findings to be shared at a fast pace. Articles can also be updated or revised quickly and this is flagged up clearly on the article.

Variety of outputs

You can publish a range of traditional and non-traditional outputs. This includes research articles, method articles, study protocols, opinion articles, research notes, policy documents, policy briefs, data sets, study protocols, case studies, posters etc.

Emerald Open Research allows us to produce papers with varying styles, such as thought leadership pieces, which are in turn more accessible and increase the amount of people we reach with our work beyond just an academic audience

Transparent and open peer review

You have control of selecting your own reviewers. Peer review of your articles is open and the reviews are citable so that your reviewers are acknowledged for their contribution.

Hear how Bob Doherty (Gateway Advisor for Sustainable Food Systems, and a Professor of Marketing and Chair in Agrifood, University of York Management School, UK) describes the peer review process and Gateway design on Emerald Open Research.

Community discussion and shareability of your work

There is an open discussion section for each article on the platform. This enables anyone in the wider research community and beyond to join in discussions that your work raises. It encourages dynamic and open debates.

There is a share function for each article so that your work can be shared on social media with only a couple of clicks.

Wider audience and societal impact

Articles in your collection will appear in our other Emerald Open research gateways. This increases the reach of your work, potentially taking it to new audiences, all of whom can share your work quickly.

Your outputs may also reach more of the communities that we share information with. In these ways, your work could contribute to societal changes more quickly than it otherwise would.

Readers can sign up to content alerts from your collection, so that when you upload a new article, they are notified.

Real-time metrics

You can see real-time data such as downloads, citations, and Altmetrics for your articles.

With its open and transparent method of review, Emerald Open Research provides a less traditional approach to publishing, which suits the collaborative nature of our programme given that we are engaged with people at all different stages of their career

We were keen to publish the N8 AgriFood Collection with Emerald Open Research because the platform provides an excellent way to synthesis our food systems research across both social and natural sciences
