Global academic publisher Emerald Publishing today announced new subscription and open access agreements with SCELC (Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium) and PALCI (Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation.)
The deals expand upon existing agreements with some institutions and make Emerald journals available to other institutions for the first time.
"By partnering with these key consortia, Emerald is expanding access to our journals and providing opportunity for authors to make their valuable research available at no cost to scholars and practitioners around the world," said Gina McCue, Emerald’s Vice President and Director, Americas.
The SCELC and PALCI agreements mark Emerald’s inaugural read and publish partnerships with library consortia in North America. They reflect a growing commitment to meeting the needs of customers and researchers in the region following Emerald’s acquisition by New York-based Cambridge Information Group in 2022.
"For nearly 60 years, Emerald has been driven by a belief that social science research can – and should – change people’s lives. Building on our longstanding strengths in management and business, our publishing program now spans a wide range of applied social science," said Terri Teleen, Emerald’s President for the Americas region. "We look forward to publishing the impactful contributions of SCELC and PALCI authors."
“At PALCI, we seek out partnerships that expand access to scholarship in innovative, sustainable ways – leveraging our members’ collective influence, budgets, and scale to drive meaningful change," said Alison Bradley, PALCI’s Associate Executive Director. "We value Emerald’s willingness to engage with the rapidly changing environment of scholarly communication and our libraries’ challenges, and we’re excited to launch this new program together. By developing solutions that support both access and publishing, Emerald is helping libraries and institutions advance their research missions in impactful ways.”
“We appreciate Emerald’s collaboration in developing a model that aligns with SCELC’s mission to support innovation in scholarly communication,” said Teri Oaks Gallaway, Executive Director of SCELC. “Emerald plays a crucial role in amplifying research that addresses real-world challenges. By fostering equitable access to scholarship, we empower our diverse community of libraries and their researchers in advancing knowledge and discovery.”
