Emerald Publishing recognised as one of only 50 businesses that made this year's Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality list.

The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2024 is the UK’s most highly-profiled and well-established listing of employers taking action to create workplaces where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive. It is a list of 50 employers taking demonstratable action to create gender equality in their workplaces.

Being recognised in the Times Top 50 is a clear indication that an organisation is committed to gender equality in the workplace and believes it is on a continuous improvement journey, learning year-on-year, and maintaining or improving its gender equality policies and activities through good measurement and management.

The assessment process focuses on three key areas: an organisation's overall approach to driving progress, specific policies around areas known to impact gender equality at work, and broader interrogation of organisational culture.

Business in the Community (BITC) has been running The Times Top 50 for 14 years, as part of its Gender Equality work, which focuses on equality for all genders and those who do not identify as a gender.

Vicky Williams, CEO, Emerald Publishing said: "We're absolutely delighted to be named as a Times Top 50 employer for gender equality. What makes me most proud in our gender equality journey is that it now infuses every part of our business. Our people hold both leadership and each other to account and that's an incredibly positive place for us to be. That said, we still have a way to go, particularly when it comes to our gender pay gap. But we're committed to action, and we don't accept the status quo.

"Our drive to create change is organisational activism in its truest form and I'm privileged to work every day with a team that has such agency and purpose. Being recognised as a Times Top 50 employer for gender equality is affirmation of years of work and it shows how far we've come as a small, medium-sized business. This recognition gives us that external validation that our work can be benchmarked against the best of the best, driving us to achieve more and to continuously improve."

Charlotte Woodworth, Gender Equality Director at Business in the Community, said: "Being named as a Times Top 50 employer for gender equality demonstrates Emerald Publishing's commitment to driving a more equitable, inclusive world. But while the employers who made the list are doing great work prioritising gender equality, there is still more work to do. From addressing pay disparities to better supporting those with caring responsibilities, many employees, women among them, still face barriers to finding employment and progressing in their careers. It is every employer’s responsibility to play their part in reducing and removing gender inequalities from the workplace, and research shows this isn't just the right thing to do, it also makes business sense."

This achievement follows the news in May 2024 that Emerald Publishing ranked number 32 in the Top 50 Inspiring Workplaces in the UK and Ireland.
