Call for Abstracts
Higher Education for Sustainability (HES) has been gaining increased attention since a full adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. Higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region show their commitment to and active engagement in the SDGs by occupying over one third of the top positions in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020.
Although a vast amount of research in the Asia-Pacific region covers the topic of higher education, studies unveiling transformation of HES remain disperse and scarce. How have Asia-Pacific higher education institutions responded to challenges outlined in the SDGs? In what ways do Asia-Pacific universities transform their structures and practices of teaching and learning? How have higher education institutions addressed demands for sustainability under social, economic, cultural, and environmental pressures?
The aims of this special issue are to:
- Showcase Asia- Pacific universities’ commitments to and engagements in promoting the SDGs through transformation of teaching and learning.
- Discuss barriers and provide solutions that foster transformation of teaching and learning in Higher Education for Sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
- Investigate innovative and contextualized approaches to transforming sustainability-related teaching and learning in higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Provide evidence-based references to innovative teaching and learning models of Higher Education for Sustainability in the era of post COVID-19.
Consistent with these aims, contributions are invited on a range of empirical and conceptual topics, with priority given to papers expanding previous discussion on teaching and learning for sustainability while addressing engagement and innovation for transforming teaching and learning for sustainability in the Asia-Pacific higher education. Papers employing innovative and under-used methodological approaches or theoretical frameworks are especially welcomed as well as elaborated case studies in the Asia-Pacific region.
