We are excited to share recent developments from our editorial leadership that reflect a deep engagement with ethics in scholarly publishing. Our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Jeonghyun (Annie) Kim, and co-editors have published an editorial (DOI:10.1108/EL-05-2025-356) addressing ethical issues and challenges in scholarly communication. The piece offers ethical expectations, journal policies, publisher guidelines and best practices to guide researchers, editors, and publishers in navigating complex ethical dilemmas and ensuring accountability in the publication process.
In addition, a panel titled “Safeguarding Research Integrity: Information Science Journal Editors’ Perspectives,” proposed by Dr. Kim, has been accepted for presentation at the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) (www.asist.org/meetings-events/am/am25/), which will be held in Washington, D. C., November 14 through November 18, 2025. The panel brings together editors from leading journals in Library and Information Science, including the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, published by Wiley-Blackwell; Library & Information Science Research, published by Elsevier; Information and Learning Sciences published by Emerald; and Dr. Kim herself, Editor-in-Chief of The Electronic Library (TEL).
This is a particularly timely topic. Emerald Publishing is fully committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical publication practice. It has recently undertaken significant efforts to strengthen policies, provide guidance for editors and reviewers, and support transparency and equity across its publishing program. We look forward to this important discussion at ASIS&T and the continued contributions of Dr. Kim in advancing ethical and responsible practices across academic publishing.
