Call for Special Issue Proposals
Caribbean Educational Research Journal (CERJ) invites proposals for special issues that advance scholarship, policy, and practice in Caribbean education and related global contexts. We welcome proposals from prospective Guest Editors who can curate a compelling collection of articles addressing critical issues, innovative approaches, and emerging research relevant to the Caribbean and its diasporas.
Purpose
Special issues provide an opportunity to:
- Spotlight timely and significant topics in Caribbean education.
- Bring together diverse perspectives, including regional, international, and comparative insights.
- Foster dialogue between researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities across the Caribbean and beyond.
- Amplify underrepresented voices and support scholarship from the Global South.
Potential Themes
To inspire your thinking, here are examples of themes aligned with current priorities in Caribbean education:
- Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice: Access, participation, decolonising curricula, and culturally sustaining pedagogies.
- Caribbean Identities and Knowledge Systems: Indigenous, local, and diasporic perspectives in education.
- Teacher Education and Professional Learning: Workforce development, teacher retention, and contextually responsive practices.
- Student/ Teacher Wellbeing and Holistic Development: Mental health, resilience, trauma informed education and social-emotional learning in Caribbean contexts.
- Neurodiversity in Caribbean Education: with exploration of experiences, challenges and pedagogical responses.
- Digital Education and Innovation: Technology-enhanced learning, online and blended education, and ethical use of AI.
- Student Performance: Across disciplinary, institutional and educational levels.
- Educational Leadership, Policy, and Reform: System-level change, governance, and regional collaboration.
- Sustainability and Climate Education: Environmental education, climate resilience, and education for sustainable development.
- Education and Development: with connections to the developmental mandates, processes and outcomes for the region and beyond.
- Education and Reparatory Justice: Reparative contestations, transformative praxis .
- Global and Comparative Perspectives: Cross-regional research and connections between the Caribbean and other Global South contexts.
Note: These are illustrative only. We strongly encourage Guest Editors to propose alternative or complementary themes that reflect emerging priorities, under-researched areas, or innovative approaches.
Proposal Guidelines
If you are interested in proposing and guest editing a special issue, please contact the journal Editors or Publisher in the first instance with a brief outline including:
- Proposed Theme and Rationale
- Why is this topic timely and significant for Caribbean education?
- Scope and Objectives
- What key questions or issues will the special issue address?
- Potential Article Types
- Empirical studies, conceptual or theoretical papers, systematic reviews, policy analyses, practitioner research, etc.
- Guest Editor Team
- Names, affiliations, and brief bios highlighting expertise and editorial experience.
- Proposed Timeline
- Suggested dates for the call for papers, submission deadline, review process, and publication.
- Reviewer Strategy
- How you will ensure a rigorous, inclusive peer review process and diverse perspectives.
Your proposal will be reviewed and, if successful, you will be invited to complete a formal special issue proposal form.
