In November, we announced our acquisition of Information Age Publishing (IAP).

Publishing academic book series, monographs and journals with particular strengths in the areas of Education, Management and Psychology, IAP expands Emerald's portfolio of high-quality academic resources, and significantly enhances Emerald's author footprint in North America.

The sale comprises over 2,600 books and six peer-reviewed journals.

Below you will find further information about the acquisition and how this may impact you.

What kind of publisher is Emerald Publishing?

A: Emerald Publishing is a leading digital-first publisher that has been championing fresh thinking for over 50 years. We focus on making research count by encouraging equitable, healthy, and sustainable research that makes a real-world difference.

What does the acquisition of Information Age Publishing (IAP) by Emerald Publishing mean for me as an author/editor?

A: The acquisition enhances Emerald's portfolio, especially in Education, Management, and Psychology, and expands our author footprint in North America. This means more opportunities for collaboration and a broader audience for your work.
 

Publishing Questions


Will there be any changes to the publishing process?

A: The core publishing process will remain the same, but you may notice some improvements and additional resources as we integrate IAP's strengths with Emerald's capabilities.

I have a contract with IAP – will this be transferred?

A: As part of this sale, IAP has transferred to us all contracts relating to your work and contributions to IAP titles to date. Moving forward, we will carry out any commitments made to you under those contracts, and you will carry out your commitments to Emerald in the same way you would have done to IAP.

Books

I’ve previously published a book with IAP – will my rights change?

A: Your rights as an author will remain the same. However, you might notice some changes in the way your book is marketed and distributed as Emerald Publishing integrates its systems with IAP.

I’ve previously published a book with IAP – which retailers will now sell my book?

A: There will be no change to the retailers that currently sell your book, however, Emerald will look at leveraging our routes to market to ensure a wider audience for your book going forward.

I have a book due to publish in 2025 – will this still go ahead?

A: We will look to ensure that scheduled publications will proceed as planned. We will be in touch in due course to let you know your Emerald contact.

Will I still receive royalties, and when?

A: Yes, you will continue to receive royalties. These will be calculated in accordance with existing contractual terms. We will pay the next royalties in April 2025 along with all other Emerald authors. Payments are made in April so that we can receive and process all external sales reports, some of which are received 3 months in arrears.

I have another question about royalties that hasn’t been answered. What should I do?

A: For queries relating to contracts please check your contractual terms first and send any outstanding queries to [email protected]. Please note that it may take us 2-3 weeks to process queries initially while we review data received from IAP.

I’m a series editor – who will be my Emerald contact?

A: An Emerald Commissioning Editor will be in touch with you as soon as possible to learn more about your series and discuss developments. Please be aware that it will be in the new year. In the meantime, if you have any urgent questions, please email [email protected]

I would like to submit a proposal, who do I contact?

A: All proposals should be submitted by email to [email protected] and shared with the series editor. Please indicate the series that you feel is the best fit for your work.

When citing my book/upcoming book should the publisher/copyright now be Emerald?

A: Yes, going forward Emerald will be the publisher and copyright owner.

As a book author, can you tell me what marketing support my title will receive?

A: We attend selected Education conferences globally, and will be ensuring we have a selection of IAP titles at our stands. We’ll also be discussing the acquisition when we’re meeting customers both new and old. 

In addition, now that we have added all IAP books onto our Emerald Bookstore, you have a dedicated page for your book. On your Bookstore page, you’ll find all the information about your book, and a link to purchase copies. 

Q: How can I access a flyer on my book?

A: If you send an email to [email protected], one of our team will provide you with an automatically-created flyer. Please state in the email if you require a version with author bios on.
 
Q. I’ve had a review for my book. How can I let you know?

A. If you’re able to send us the review by email, this can be added to your bookstore page. Please email the [email protected] inbox. 
 

Journals

I’ve submitted an article for consideration – where is it?

A: The journal editors will continue to be the point of contact for authors and will keep you informed of your article’s progress

I’ve submitted an article for consideration – where will it be published now?

A: There will be no change. Your article, if accepted, will be published in the journal and will be made available via www.infoagepub.com

I’m a journal editor – who will be my Emerald contact?

Purchasing Questions


I’ve recently ordered a book from IAP via the IAP Bookstore – will my order still be fulfilled?

A: Yes, books will continue to be fulfilled as normal. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]
