Introduction

This special issue aims to contribute to an understanding of how HRM practices can evolve and are evolving to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. To that end, the special issue will invite papers that address how recent social and geopolitical changes have necessitated a response by human resources leaders and professionals to adapt or develop practices and policies in order to effectively support and respond to employees' evolving social attitudes and expectations, including recruitment, selection, training, performance management, and other HRM practices. We seek papers that offer theoretical advancements, practical solutions, policy implications, or evidence-based insights related to HRM within this context of social change.

List of Topic Areas

The Special Issue will consider the role of Human Resource Management in responding to and managing the implications of social changes on work, workers, and the workplace, including: 

  1. Evolving Views of Work and New Ways of Working; 
  2. Worker Vulnerability and Marginalisation; 
  3. Spillover of Global Issues and Crises into Workplaces; 
  4. Organizational Responses to Worker Activism and Organizing; 
  5. and Engaging with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
