Introduction
The aim of this special issue on sustainable community development is to identify and disseminate innovative practices, frameworks and research findings that promote environmentally and socially responsible community development. The Special Issue aims to respond to pressing sustainability challenges by highlighting interdisciplinary approaches - such as environmental science, sociology, economics and information technology - that integrate community development's ecological, social and economic dimensions. Focusing on empirical studies, it provides evidence-based insights into sustainable community practices. Particular emphasis is given to Asian and European research and their comparative analysis, revealing regional differences and similarities in sustainable community development strategies. The originality of this special issue on sustainable community development lies in its critical analysis of the intersection of social and environmental justice, technological innovation and sustainable consumption and behaviour. The studies aim to promote the inclusion of marginalised groups (namely, youth, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities) in the decision-making processes through education, and explore the role of digitalisation in community learning and social participation. A new feature of the special issue is exploring the role of psychological factors, such as the importance of individual choices, environmental awareness, and identity in the educational process, which aims to promote environmentally friendly practices and strengthen green HR orientation. In addition, the analysis of policy frameworks and the formulation of new recommendations for education will contribute to promoting sustainable community development. This special issue also collaborates with the Kautz Conference on Business and Economics, where the most recent research in the field is presented.
