Background
Human interaction with Generative AI has transformed the writing, translation and teaching, upskilling AI acumens. AI writing bots have provided particularly ESL and EFL writers with opportunities to reimagine their writing craft. With the increasing and rapid acceptance and adoption of AI tools, higher education educators have raised ethical concerns regarding potential copyright violations, infringement on creativity, and critical thinking. These abilities are typically cultivated through the traditional writing process and approaches. There are also complaints that AI writing tools stifle writers' voices and thus limit the diversity of writing. These concerns, among others, have prompted the academic community to investigate the utility, acceptance, and integration of Generative AI within higher education. There is a growing need for local literature to implement AI literacy programs and regulations to help teachers and learners, especially those whose first language is not English, integrate AI-powered writing tools creatively and critically. The focus of this special issue is to provide AI acumens to higher education institutions to arm their educators and students with skills required in the job-market.
