Call for Chapters - Race, Ethnicity, and the Family: Identity and Dynamics within Multi-Racial and Multi-Ethnic Families

Closes:

Contemporary Perspectives in Family Research, a series which focuses upon cutting edge topics in family research around the globe, is seeking manuscript submissions for a special volume. The volume will focus on the theme of: ‘Race, Ethnicity, and the Family: Identity and Dynamics within Multi-Racial and Multi-Ethnic Families.’

Around the globe, there has been a steady increase in multiracial and multiethnic families. These families arise from a variety of factors, including a greater tendency toward heterogamous marriage, transnational marriage, and transracial adoption. In many societies, the cultural biases and prejudices of the past have given way to greater tolerance and acceptance. Nonetheless, multiracial and multiethnic families still face numerous challenges, as racial and ethnic identity are still salient elements within the daily lives of adults and children within these families. With the rising prominence of these families, it is essential that greater research attention be focused upon multiracial and multiethnic families, and the structural and relationship characteristics within them.

This volume seeks a broad examination of multiracial and multiethnic families. We welcome theoretical and methodological submissions from a wide array of academic disciplines, as these explore the many issues pertaining to multiracial and multiethnic families. In doing so, we seek manuscripts which address a multitude of topics, such as: children’s racial and ethnic identity, marital quality within “mixed” marriages, prejudice and discrimination, intergenerational relationships, cultural socialization, transracial adoption, multiracial and multiethnic siblings, mate selection, marginalization, relationship dynamics with extended kin, community integration, gender roles and attitudes, language choice, and stress and well-being, among others.

Submission guidelines

Manuscripts should be limited to approximately 10,000 words (not including tables, figures, and references), adhere to APA format, and submitted as MS WORD documents.
