2011 Emerald/ASFOR Case Writing Competition


Call for case material relevant for business and management in Italy

ASFOR Italian Association for Management Education and Emerald Group Publishing are delighted to announce the launch of their 1st annual Case Writing Competition. The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote research and dissemination of high-quality case material relevant for business and management in Italy.

The total award prize money sponsored by Emerald is €1,500.

Submission Requirements

Compulsory submission criteria:

  • All case studies must be written in English.
  • All case studies should focus on management issues in business, public administration and non-profit institutions in Italy.
  • All case studies should be original, they should not have been published before in their current or substantially similar form, or be under consideration for publication in any ISSN/ ISBN-registered publication or in any clearing house
  • All case studies submitted must include appropriate signed permissions from case protagonists.
  • All submissions should be accompanied by a case teaching note and case synopsis.


At least one member of the research team must either be an Italian national or be based in Italy.


ASFOR Italian Association for Management Education and Emerald Group Publishing reserve the right to publish the cases submitted for the competition following an autonomous evaluation process, but do not have any other claims for the copyright.

ASFOR can also, at it's discretion, give visibility to exceprts/synopses, written or approved by competing authors. In this case, ASFOR will pay the author 200.

If, six months after the deadline for submissions has passed, Emerald and/or ASFOR has not contacted the author about publishing his/her case, Emerald and ASFORwill waive their first claim to publication and the authors will be free to submit their case to another publication.

In the event of publication authors will retain the academic freedom to contribute to the wider distribution and readership of their work. This includes the right to use their work as part of their own teaching. The rights retained by the author are explained fully in the Emerald Authors' Charter.

Evaluation committee

All case studies will be evaluated by a committee composed of representatives appoinred by ASFOR and Emerald. The committee will determine the final ranking of the best three cases in the competition based on their originality and focus on business development, management and managerial culture in Italy.


The author of the best case will be awarded a prize of €1,500 (or currency equivalent) and a plaque of recognition provided by ASFOR. Authors of the second and third best cases will be awarded €500 euro each and a plaque of recognition provided by ASFOR.

If a winning case has more than one author, the prize will be split among the co-authors (the prize may be subject to local taxes).
Prizes may be subject to local taxes.
A number of highly commended awards may also be bestowed.

ASFOR Italian Association for Management Education
Established in 1971 with the aim of developing the managerial culture in Italy and qualifying the supply of management training, ASFOR is an association that currently has over 80 members with legal personality, operating both as suppliers and consumers of educational services, or supporting their development. ASFOR Articles of Association provide three categories of Members: full members, associate members, sustaining members. In 1989 ASFOR activated the “Master Accreditation Process" for Masters in General Management, specialized Masters and MBA. In 2005 ASFOR started also the "E-learning Executive Master Accreditation Process" and in 2009 the " Corporate Master Accreditation Process".
ASFOR organizes workshops, seminars, round tables and conferences on management training, social and economic issues, involving the main institutional actors of Italian economic system through specific working groups.
