A history of the journal from the founding editor, Richard Teare

The proposal for what was initially called the Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management grew out of a sense of frustration among academics back in the 1980s. There were only a few places to publish at the time and none of the existing journals seemed to actively encourage partnership writing with industry.

Read more about how Richard successfully bridged the gap between theory and practice and grew IJCHM into the leading journal it is today.

Professor Fevzi Okumus:
A note of thanks

I want to take this opportunity to thank Professor Richard Teare, the founding editor of IJCHM, our authors, subscribers, EAB members, ad hoc reviewers, staff at Emerald, my editorial assistants, regional editors and associate editors for their ongoing support to IJCHM.

  • We have a rigorous double blind peer review process to ensure we are publishing the best quality papers.
  • We regularly update the editorial board to include leading scholars and rising stars. Our board members are engaged and always contribute fresh ideas to the journal.
  • We regularly publish special issues on hot topics. I would like to thank all the guest editors of these special issues for doing such an excellent job and helping us to improve citations, usage and our reputation.

In 2010 IJCHM was accepted in to the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and in 2012 we received the first journal impact factor, which was 0.929. This was a great achievement for us, putting us among the top T&H journals in our field. The journal has also ranked among the top three of Emerald’s journals in terms of article downloads for the past five years.

"The impact of the IJCHM is clearly evident from its recent inclusion in the Social Sciences Citation Index with a good impact factor."
