Special Issue on 'The changing nature of retirement: an international perspective'

Special issue call for papers from International Journal of Manpower

‘‘The Changing Nature of Retirement: An International Perspective’’

Purpose of the Special Issue:

This special issue will serve to bring together a set of interdisciplinary, cutting edge empirical contributions relating to the study of retirement. The goal of this special issue is to challenge contributors to go beyond the traditional framework for studying retirement, and to adopt a contemporary approach to the conceptualization of these issues. We invite a variety of empirical contributions from a broad spectrum of disciplines that integrate and synthesize recent advances regarding retirement, particularly from an international perspective.

Interested scholars are invited to send manuscripts representing original empirical research that synthesizes recent advances, extends existing theories, or advances new theoretical perspectives in the study of retirement, including, but not limited to issues of: Mid and late career issues related to retirement; cross-cultural issues in retirement; retirement planning; adjustment to retirement; work and family issues related to pre and/or post retirement factors; retirement issues that may be unique to a particular country or region of the world; retirement and job withdrawal attitudes and behaviors; employers perspectives on retirement; and retirement among self-employed workers.

The list of topics above is meant to be illustrative, not exhaustive. A key feature is that the paper needs to address, regardless of the specific topic within retirement, employment/manpower issues, given the focus of the journal.

The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2009. The special issue is intended for publication in late 2010.

Papers to be considered for this special issue should be submitted to one of the guest editors via e-mail (see below). Specific details on the construction of submitted manuscripts (e.g., length, format, style) can be found at the journal’s web site: http://www.emeraldinsight.com/ijm.htm. A more detailed call for papers is available from either guest editor.
