Human Resource Management and Human Capital in Economic Development in China

Special issue call for papers from Journal of Chinese Human Resource Management


Guest Editors: Chris Rowley, CHIN Ta Chia, WU Weiwei

In the first decades of the 21st century China is still undergoing economic industrial change and upgrading. As one of the most important resources in such development, human resources (HR) and human capital play an important role in this. Indeed, the recently issued the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China requires the country to “strengthen the investment of human capital” to “build the power of human capital”.

Given this our Special Issue calls for the use of holistic, dynamic, and contingent approaches from multi- or cross-disciplinary perspectives to investigate HR management (HRM) and human capital issues in China in this development. The issue aims at developing novel, indigenous theories and models of Chinese HRM and human capital. Papers exploring the mechanisms of how Chinese HRM contributed to human capital theories by Rowley and Redding (2012) are particularly welcome.

8-9 April, 2017:           Paper presented and discussed at the conference
30 May, 2017:            Selected papers submitted after conference revisions to be reviewed
30 November, 2017:    Papers reviewed and revised

About the conference
The conference will be held on 8-9 April, 2017 at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Authors whose abstracts are accepted are automatically invited to participate in the Conference. JCHRM Editor, Prof. Chris Rowley, and Guest Editors, Prof. CHIN Tachia and Prof. WU Weiwei will serve as mentors on papers. Although attendance is not mandatory, the conference will provide an opportunity for further feedback and paper development.
