Focus:

Lean intends to minimize waste, increases speed, maximize value; six-sigma helps the organization to measure, analyse, reduce and control defects. An integrated approach can help the organization to reap the benefits of process excellence faster. The present body of knowledge reports both success and failures of such integrated philosophy. The success primarily depends on the macro environment (including social, political and environmental dimensions) and micro environment (including leadership, skill, culture) of the organization. The characteristics of micro and macro environment for developing countries are unique and hence the implementation challenges. As this special issue focusses on LSS implementation frameworks and challenges, IJLSS is the most appropriate journal whose readers could appreciate these advancements in LSS. In this special issue, the Guest Editors invite high quality articles (both practical and theoretical) from academics, researchers and practitioners from around the world addressing the critical issues in lean six-sigma studies and implementation challenges in developing countries. Specifically, the contributions can address one of the following areas:

  • Characteristics of Industry in developing countries and its linkages with lean and six-sigma implementation challenges
  • Frameworks proposing lean and six-sigma implementation strategies
  • Research studies on integrated lean six sigma strategy
  • Achieving sustainability and competitive advantage through lean and six-sigma implementation
  • Advanced lean and six-sigma tools and techniques for process improvement such as Sustainable VSM, TRIZ method, DMADV, Axiomatic Principles
  • Relationships between lean and clean production
  • Lean/Six Sigma role in Supply Chain
  • LSS integration with Environmental management systems
  • Lean and Six Sigma case studies from small and medium sized enterprises in the context of developing countries
