In association with The Journal of Applied Accounting Research.

Monday-Tuesday, 9-10 September, 2013

 'Accounting For Value and Governance'

The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Northern Area Group (NAG), in association with The Journal of Applied Accounting Research (JAAR), invites paper submissions to the BAFA Northern Area Group Annual Conference on the theme “Accounting for Value and Governance” to be held at the Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham on 9-10 September 2013 (see: http://www.ntu.ac.uk/nbs/news_events/conferences/index.html).

Publication of special issue:

The Journal of Applied Accounting Research will devote a special issue for selected papers presented at this conference to be published in 2014. The papers for the special issue will be subjected to double-blind peer review in line with the journal’s normal practice. The special issue guest editors are: Musa Mangena of Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, UK and Jia Liu of the University of Salford, Manchester, UK.

Theme:

Interactions of corporate reporting, finance, financial markets and governance have generated much academic and policy debate at a time of economic crisis and ethical self-questioning. In line with the conference theme “Accounting for Value and Governance”, it is intended that the JAAR special issue will investigate the implications of sustainability and value creation for the accounting process. We encourage researchers to address new, unexplored accounting- and finance-related topics, to apply emerging theories and empirical methods, to challenge conventional wisdom and to seek out new data sets. We invite colleagues’ attention to the following, by no means exclusive, possibilities:

  • Accounting and finance: strengthening the link
  • Business ethics and corporate governance
  • The role of institutional investors and corporations
  • Accounting, finance and corporate misbehaviour
  • Accounting quality
  • IFRS and corporate finance
  • Accounting for risk and financial innovation
  • Accounting for corporate strategy
  • Developments in public sector accounting
  • Accounting for the financial decisions of Islamic banks and non-financial enterprises

Please submit electronically either a completed paper or an abstract of about 500 words to the conference by 31st May 2013 to: [email protected].
