BACKGROUND AND EXPECTATIONS
 The emphasis on the importance of performance measurement and management is growing rapidly as it leads the way to continuous improvements of organisations.  It has gone through number of generations, from pure financial based to the financial, non-financial integration and from organisational specific to the supply chain performance measurement.
 
Performance measurement play a number of roles in organisations: reporting the organisational success or failure; influencing the behaviour of the parties concerned; linking the organisational strategy with the employee’s occupation; monitoring the progress and measurement of performance; managing success or failure; and learning and continuous improvement. However, making the transition from performance measurement to performance management is vital as the decisions taken based on the results of performance measurement could lead the organisation in taking corrective actions to suite the strategic directions of the work. Within this context, performance measurement and management have become integral parts of organisational management. 
 
Accordingly, the focus of this special issue is to create a debate around the use and applicability of performance measurement and management and to assert its way forward.
 
THEMES
 Contributed papers may deal with, but are not limited to the following themes:
 
·         Performance measurement and management system design
·         Performance measurement and management frameworks
·         Assessing performance of infrastructure projects
·         Performance measurement futures
·         Performance measurement in research and development and in intellectual capital and intangible assets
·         Strategic performance measurement
·         Performance measurement of supply chains
·         Public sector performance measurement
·         Performance measurement and management of healthcare facilities
 
 
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
 High quality original papers are invited before the deadline below.  Each paper will be sent for rigorous assessment by at least three reviewers.

 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION 
 Manuscripts must be received before 08/07/2009. Special edition will be published on the 08/02/2010.
