2018 Emerald/HEC
Case Study Competition

Maximize your potential and compete with the brightest minds in Pakistan

Emerald is delighted to partner with The Higher Education Commission to launch the first Emerald/HEC Case Study Competition.

The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality teaching case material relevant for the realities of dynamic and emerging economies and at the same time promote the development of case writing capabilities in Pakistan.

With the rise of experiential learning, case studies remain a fundamental teaching tool in every subject area within the business school discipline. Those cases with a local focus are critical to developing business school curriculum in the emerging economies; Emerald and The Higher Education Commission are devoted to developing high-quality cases focused in Pakistan.

The total cash prize fund is US$1,000, which reflects Emerald's commitment and belief in the importance of case studies. The prize fund will be split between two winners.

The winners will be announced in November 2018 and will be presented with their award at an event at The Higher Education Commission in December 2018. More details will be shared nearer the time.


Applicants must be of Pakistani origin or be based at a Pakistan institution. All case submissions that fulfil the criteria will be considered for international publication.

How to enter

Entries should be submitted via the ScholarOne Manuscripts submission and peer review system. Registration and access can be found at:

When prompted, please select the HEC special issue as the issue to which you are submitting.

Please consult the competition evaluation checklist before submitting your case.
All cases must be prepared in accordance with the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies collection author guidelines. Page two of the guidelines contains instructions on submitting through ScholarOne Manuscripts.

The following documents must be submitted:

  • Case title page
  • Case
  • Case teaching note
  • A "Consent to Publish Release Form" signed by the management of the company or individuals included in the case.

Permissions documentation must be supplied for any content that is not of the author’s own making, including tables and figures from other sources. Please read Emerald’s permissions guidelines.

Full Harvard-style referencing must be used for secondary data sources

Important note

Cases will be automatically entered into the peer review process. Selected cases will be published in Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies [EEMCS] collection [ISSN 2045-0621]. By participating in the competition, you are automatically agreeing to having your case study published in EEMCS, providing it is accepted for publication after peer review and rounds of revision [if required].
