Emerald partners with ORCID to support its author community
Emerald adopts ORCID IDs to support initiatives towards author disambiguation and improve the scholarly discovery process
Bingley, United Kingdom, 17 February 2015 – As part of continued efforts to support the author community and the scholarly discovery process, Emerald Group Publishing
is partnering with ORCID
, which provides a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent method of linking research activities.
ORCID is a community driven, non-profit organization with the aim of resolving ambiguity problems for the research community.
Its central register of unique identifiers - ORCID iDs - for individual researchers provide an open and transparent process for organizations and researchers to connect and enhance their scholarly offering – ensuring an authors work is supported and suitably recognized.
By adopting ORCID’s established industry identifier method, Emerald has been able to enrich content metadata which improves the scholarly discovery process; the efficiency of research funding; and supports the sharing of research and collaboration within the research community.
Tony Roche, Publishing Director at Emerald, said: “We are very pleased to be fully integrating ORCID identifiers from Emerald’s global author community into our content metadata.
“This offers numerous benefits to our customers, including improved author disambiguation, integration of what is becoming a global standard, improved search functionality and the ability to benefit from new author services.
“For Emerald authors, linking their ORCID iD to their article submissions will allow better showcasing of their work and support their career progression, by making their work clearly discoverable by funders, universities, professional associations and scholarly societies.”
Emerald is committed to providing an enhanced digital approach to its content, improving the discovery process and global impact of published research, as well as helping its authors to build a full publication history - emphasizing their research offering.
ORCID is an open, non-profit, community-driven effort to create and maintain a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers. ORCID is unique in its ability to reach across disciplines, research sectors and national boundaries. It is a hub that connects researchers and research through the embedding of ORCID identifiers and workflows, such as research profile maintenance, manuscript submissions, grant applications and patent applications.
