Meet the New Editor of JIC, Merrill Warkentin!

Merrill Warkentin. 

Merrill Warkentin, PhD is the James J. Rouse Endowed Professor of Information Systems in the College of Business and a William L. Distinguished Professor at Mississippi State University. His research has appeared in MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Decision Sciences, Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, Journal of Information Systems, Computers & Security, The DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, Communications of the AIS, and others, and he is the author or editor of seven books on technology. He has authored or co-authored over 300 published manuscripts, including over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles (over 50 so far this decade).  His work has been cited over 15,000 times (h-index = 35).  He is ranked #15 in the world in AIS-top six 6 journal articles published 2016-2018.

Dr. Warkentin has extensive experience as a journal editor.  He recently served as Senior Editor of the AIS Transactions on Replication Research and as Guest Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly.  He also serves or has served as Associate Editor of MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Decision Sciences, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, and other journals.  He also currently serves on the editoral review boards of several additionally highly-regarded journals.  He has Guest Edited several issues of top journals, including two special issues of the European Journal of Information Systems.  Dr. Warkentin has served as AIS Departmental Editor, the Vice President for Publications of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), and the Eminent Area Editor for Decision Sciences.  He co-founded (in 2009) the UN-affiliated International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group on Information Systems Security Research (WG 8.11 / 11.13) and served as its Chair, and was awarded the “Outstanding Leadership Award” on Oct. 3, 2015 for “exemplary service and dedication to the Dewald Roode Information Security Workshop.”  Dr. Warkentin was one of five scholars worldwide to be recognized with the 2017 Outstanding Service Award by the IFIP General Assembly “in recognition to your considerable and sustained contributions to IFIP” for his role in cofounding and nurturing the IFIP Working Group on Information Security Research. His work has been funded by numerous national and international organizations, including NATO, IBM, UN, and others.  He has chaired several national and international conferences, has been Track Chair at ICIS, AMCIS, ECIS, and DSI, and was the Program Co-Chair of the AIS Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) in 2016.  Dr. Warkentin has served as a visiting professor or invited speaker at numerous universities in North America, Europe, and Asia.  Professor Warkentin’s Ph.D. in MIS is from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  He can be reached at [email protected] and
