Smart City Facilities and their Management

Special issue call for papers from Facilities

Call for Papers preceding CIB World Building Congress 2019

A CIB-encouraged journal.

The trend of the smart city is proliferating fast and many facilities are built or installed globally to coincide. We have dedicated a special issue to generate, share, and create a good knowledge base for managing these facilities. We are looking for academics and practitioners in the field to contribute to this Special Issue, which is associated with the CIB World Building Congress.

The CIB World Building Congress, to be held in June 2019, is regarded as the leading construction research and innovation conference worldwide promoting cooperation and information exchange between institutions in the building and construction sector. The 2019 focus will be 'Constructing Smart Cities'. Panel discussions, workshops, networking events and site tours will offer invaluable opportunities to gain insights into the creation of the smarter and more sustainable cities of the future.

Research pertaining to smart cities is growing; however, the facilities management aspect of the topic is often overlooked with the focus on technical innovation. Our aim is to increase awareness, and build a conversation around, best practice and caveats of smart city development, particularly in the arena of construction and facilities management in the long term.

Sub-topics for this Special Issue include:

  • Smart technologies for built environment
  • Smart facilities engineering and services management
  • Smart construction operations and facilities maintenance
  • Smart real estate and property management

For high-quality articles of the Congress pertaining to the above sub-topics, their authors will be invited by the guest editorial team of this Special Issue to develop their articles into full journal papers. After the normal review process of Facilities, the accepted journal articles will be published in the Special Issue. The key dates are listed below:
