Guest Editors:

Trista Hollweck, Western Quebec School Board/ University of Ottawa, Canada

Deborah Netolicky, SCHOOL / Murdoch University, Australia

Paul Campbell, ESF Sha Tin Junior School, Hong Kong/ University of Glasgow, Scotland

The special issue of Journal of Professional Capital and Community will focus on issues surrounding professional identity, relationships, and culture in the context of pracademia and raise critical questions around the opportunities and tensions that can arise in order to theorise and interrogate the integral role the pracademic community plays, and could increasingly play, in the development of professional capital in schools and school systems.

We welcome submissions to this special issue. Submissions may be conceptual in nature and explore pracademia and what it means to be a pracademic, or report on the work of pracademics. The special issue aims to address the following questions:

  • What is a pracademic and who decides?
  • What does it mean to be a pracademic in different educational spaces?
  • What issues and/or tensions arise in the complex negotiation of the dual worlds of
  • practice and scholarship?
  • What role does identity and belonging play in pracademia?
  • What does pracademia offer the field of education? Is the term limiting or empowering?

Expressions of interest in the form of a 200-word abstract, including article title, author names and contact information should be submitted to [email protected] by July 1, 2020 for consideration. Expression of interest is not mandatory for manuscript submission but strongly encouraged because the number of articles in the special issue is limited.
