The present state of affairs:
The difficulties in getting the daily essentials to customers in a timely manner during the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed major gaps and risks in the conventional supply chains. The crisis and the issues exposed, however, provided an opportunity for companies to reassess and remodel their supply chains by taking a more scientific and methodological approach (Queiroz et al., 2020). Prior to COVID-19, the focus was mostly on supply chain optimization to reduce overall wastes and increase overall operational efficiency. The COVID-19 crisis has now forced companies to work on building resilience, reduce risk, identify shortages at the earliest during sudden spikes in demand, and to adopt sustainable strategies to ensure success in their supply chain operations (El Baz and Ruel, 2020).
Emerging advancements in technologies provide an opportunity to improve end-to-end supply chain performance in response to situations such as COVID-19, and support organizations to increase supply chain resiliency, sustainability and agility (Ivanov and Dolgui, 2020). The supply chain risk indicators are more important in transforming a linear supply chain into digital supply networks (Manavalan et al., 2020; Manavalan and Jayakrishna, 2019). It will allow organizations to improve the flow of information and collaborate easier than before. Supply Chain Engineering (SCE) is the use of mathematical models and methods to determine optimal strategies for managing the supply chain (Ravindran and Warsing, 2013). SCE intersects with multiple engineering specialties such as production engineering, industrial engineering, information systems engineering, and software engineering (Goetschalckx, 2011). The methods followed in SCE practices are essential to build supply chain resiliency, collaboration, and operational excellence. In addition, SCE enables optimally interconnecting IT, human resources, manufacturing centres, warehouses, and logistics to achieve performance goals.
Proposed theme and objectives:
International Conference on Logistics and Supply Chain Engineering (ICLSE) 2021, will be held at Kandy, Sri Lanka from 16th to 18th of December 2021. ICLSE 2021 is organized by the Central Chapter of Charted Institute of Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka (CILT) and in collaboration with University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. The International Conference on Logistics and Supply Chain Engineering (ICLSE 2021) is currently accepting articles that address the emerging trends in supply chain engineering. The best articles submitted to ICLSE 2021 presenting innovative supply chain engineering solutions will be published through this special issue (SI). We also invite contributions from leading researchers in the field of SCE catering to the theme of this SI issue. This SI focuses on forecasting planning, designing and optimization of logistics, production and manufacturing of products, pricing of products using mathematical models and approaches as well as simulations. The topics of interest for this SI include, but are not limited, to:
- Supply chain strategies, integration, dynamics and management
- Agile and resilient logistics and supply chain network design
- Emergency logistics management during disasters and pandemics
- Reverse logistics, closed-loop, and circular supply chains
- Procurement, warehousing, and inventory management
- Planning and scheduling in supply chains
- Quality management and reliability in supply chains
- Logistics and supply network performance
- Role of information technology and IoT applications supply chain 4.0
- Sustainability in logistics and supply chain management
- Interesting case studies focussing on recent innovations in logistics and supply chain
By addressing the above topics, this SI will build upon and add to the logistics and supply chain engineering bodies of knowledge.
Initial submissions must be made as per the formatting guidelines of ICLSE 2021.
Only authors of the selected articles should revise and prepare their manuscripts as per the Author Guidelines available on the journal homepage
