Workshop in Scientific Writing and Publishing: For Indonesian researchers in disaster risk and related areas

An online workshop for Indonesian doctoral students and researchers working in disaster risk and related subjects, who are new to publishing or wish to refresh their skills.


  • Indonesian researchers, experienced or novice, staff or postgraduate, who have or will soon have research they wish to write-up for scholarly publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Researchers can be cross-disciplinary or have a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, arts and humanities, or social sciences focus
  • For researchers working in disaster risk and related subject areas

Skills gained

  • Develop writing skills and confidence writing for journals
  • Understand editorial processes and what editors look for in papers
  • Understand bibliometrics, quality and impact indicators
  • Learn best practices for submitting a paper and completing a peer review


  • Registration is free
  • Hosted and delivered online using Zoom platform
  • 2 half-day workshop and a publication surgery with flexible 1-hour appointments over 5 days
  • Short lectures, expert panel discussion, group discussions, Q&A, 1-to-1
  • Journal editors from the Scopus indexed International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment and other journals in the field
  • 1-to-1 interaction with editors and an opportunity for manuscript review
  • Delivered in English language medium
  • Sessions will be recorded and archived for future reference
  • Supporting materials will be made available electronically

Selection Procedure

Eligibility Criteria

  • Indonesian citizens
  • Affiliated to a Higher Education Institute / scientific institution as a member of staff or registered postgraduate research student (Indonesian citizens affiliated to a higher education institution living aboard can also apply)
  • Research interests in disaster risk reduction

Quality Assessment

  • Experience and relevance of the applicant’s research area to the workshop
  • Motivation and contribution to the aims of the workshop
  • Description of the long-term impact expected through the participation in the workshop
  • Ability to disseminate workshop’s outcomes
