The event provided an opportunity for leaders in the aerospace industry to meet with potential industry partners. As publisher of Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology Emerald was delighted to be involved in discussions covering the latest and most crucial topics of the aerospace and defense sector.

Jordi Caralt, Emerald Country Manager, Southern Europe, was there to represent Emerald’s highly regarded Engineering eJournal Collection, and met with members from Extenda, the Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia and the Center for Advanced Aerospace Technologies (CATEC).

According to Ms Teresa Sáez, General Manager of Extenda, “ADM was the greatest international business convention devoted to the aerospace industry of this dimension taking place in Spain. We had the participation of 288 enterprises and related associations and aerospace institutions including 48 of the prime international contractors and the four global major ones. In total, 690 registered professionals attended up to 6,000 meetings, in 2,000 of which there was the presence of some Andalusian enterprises as well as another hundred professionals visiting the event.” Organized by the Regional Government of Economy through Extenda-Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia, ADM aimed to give a “qualitative leap” to the internationalization of such a strategic sector for Andalusia and encouraging industrial investment within the region.

“We are also proud of ADM because, thanks to these meetings, Andalusia is already part of the greatest aerospace international convention circuit, since the Andalusian cluster as well as its business and investments possibilities have been known first hand by prime global players.

Andalusia is one of the keys European aerospace sites. In the axis Seville-Cadiz a thriving aerospace industry has set up which decisively participates in some of the most important global projects. The aerospace industry is considered by the Andalusian Government as a strategic industry so we are firmly supporting and encouraging its projects with the most advanced infrastructures and services, its R&D&I programmes as well as internationalization.”

More than 120 enterprises show, day after day, this capability with an annual turnover of around €2,000 millions, most of them coming from exports. In the last decade, this industry has risen its productivity by 50 per cent, has multiplied by four its turnover and by three the number of employees.

Andalusia is the second aerospace exporting region in Spain and in the last decade (2002-2011) has multiplied by five its foreign sales to reach nearly €1.000 millions in 2011 (from €187,6 to €998 million), selling to more than 100 countries.

Mr Juan Pedro Vela, CATEC’s Managing Director, adds: “ADM has been the framework to professionally discuss and think about the future of such a complex industry as Spanish Aeronautics. In the course of the meetings we had at ADM, we have tried to present CATEC as an institution which will keep focusing on developing new technologies and industrial processes. These are going to mark the aerospace future in the next few years, as we have been doing since we were established, although we are also open to our customers and partners’ necessities and proposals in projects and research works. We work as a link between Andalusian and Spanish companies and help them to improve competitiveness. This is our objective: to keep growing in resources and services, to go on contributing added value to Andalusian and Spanish companies and work on new technology projects which will place strategically Andalusia and Spain on the worldwide aerospace future. “
