Environmental Geotechnics is organising a themed issue on “Waste Generation and Management in the Anthropocene epoch: trends, challenges, and sustainable solutions”.
This themed issue will explore various aspects of waste disposal facility management with a specific emphasis on the challenges and advancements related to the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). This themed issue aims to encourage researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry professionals to share their insights, innovative approaches, and best practices in waste management (WM).
We invite original research papers, review articles, case studies, and policy analyses that address the following topics (but are not limited to): insights, innovative approaches, and best practices in waste management (WM). In addition, we particularly invite submissions that explore the relationship between waste disposal practices and the Anthropocene. This includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Circular Economy and Resource Recovery
- Analysis of WM practices that promote resource recovery and circular economy principles.
- Evaluation of the potential for waste-to-resource approaches, such as recycling and upcycling.

- Lessons learned from the implementation of innovative waste disposal technologies and practices.

- Exploration of emerging technologies and trends in waste disposal, such as advanced sorting and treatment methods.
- Assessment of the potential for innovative WM solutions to mitigate the impact of waste on the Anthropocene.
- Discussion on the integration of WM practices into broader sustainable development frameworks.
- Environmental Impact and Sustainability
- Assessment of the carbon footprint and ecological footprint of WM practices.
- Exploration of the role of waste disposal in contributing to climate change and biodiversity loss.
