Introduction
Fashion is the 4th most destructive sector of life (trees, soil, animals, humans) with a carbon footprint equivalent of 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions (Greenpeace, 2023). Despite the climate emergency, the fashion sector registered little transformation, and sustainable fashion consumption still marginal. In fact, there is a lack of information on sustainable fashion offers and consumers meet difficulties to identify them in the market and within stores (Dekhili et al. 2024). This special issue aims to study the main constraints that slow the distribution of sustainable fashion items, and to offer perspectives to enhance their visibility and accessibility on the market.
On the academic side, there is a very few knowledge on the distribution of sustainable fashion products (Ray and Nayak, 2023). This special issue proposes to offer new insights on distribution channels (physical and online), their particularities as well as their contribution to sustainability. Also, the new role of stores as places of exchange and dissemination of sustainability values is very interesting to explore.
Finally, as SMEs and start-ups are now considered to be behind a large number of sustainable initiatives in the fashion industry because their agility and ability to design more innovative business models, a particular focus shall be placed on the case of these businesses.
