Special Issue on Maintaining Quality in Providing Mental Health and Behavioral Services
Health care delivery has a special purpose in our wellbeing. Demand for health services has been stretched to its limit while dealing with strains caused due to pandemic and its aftermath. Health care providers have risen admirably to the challenges posed by these circumstances.
The purpose of issuing this call for papers, is our effort to chronicle (a) design, development, and implementation of either existing or new frameworks, models, and methodologies, (b) case studies or survey studies, to those needing behavioral and mental health treatments and care.
We invite medical / health care researchers, professionals, and practitioners to submit their manuscripts for publication in our journal.
We are currently accepting submissions on all aspects of quality in health care delivery related to patients needing behavioral and mental health treatments and care. Topics related to this call may cover a broad range of issues, such as behavioral health treatments to patients diagnosed with mental illnesses or suffering substance use disorders. Services described may include counseling and more specialized psychotherapies that seek to change behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and how people see and understand situations. Treatment programs for delivery of medications for mental and substance use disorders to provide significant relief for patients and help manage symptoms and recovery may also be described.

Notes for Intending Authors regarding guidelines for preparation of manuscript
The Editors of this journal invite potential authors to submit their works that advance knowledge of how to better organize and manage quality in health care delivery. Accepted manuscripts are expected to meet following manuscript evaluation criteria, address significant quality indicators, demonstrate application of well-known quality models and methodologies, as well as adhere to the prescribed checklist for manuscript. Manuscript Evaluation Criteria
All successful submissions to this journal are expected to meet the following criteria:
- Manuscripts must be prepared according to the Author Guidelines (https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/journal/ijhcqa#author-guidelines) posted on the journal portal.
- Submitted manuscripts should neither have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- All manuscripts are refereed through a double-blind peer review process.
- The research problem must be clearly and very succinctly defined before the solution on solving the problem is described.
- Existing methods for solving the problem must be thoroughly reviewed.
- Proposed methods for solving the problem must be clearly described, rigorously justified, and tested. In addition, a demonstration of its practical value and impact must be offered. Whenever possible, the performance of the new method should be presented in comparison with those of existing methods.
- The manuscript must be well written, flow logically and its major contributions must be clearly articulated.
- Whenever possible and feasible, data should be made publicly accessible for verification.
If existing methodology is applied to solve a problem, then innovation of a publishable application could be demonstrated by the superior quality of the solution. Particular attention will be paid in making publication decisions on the clarity of problem statement, fidelity of model formulation, credibility of data, generalizability of contribution, and significance of research impact.
A predominantly large number of overall submissions to our journal are Case Studies or Survey Studies. It is the journal’s policy that any studies and datasets that include human patients, should offer proof of Institutional Review Board (IRB) clearance, which must be provided to the Editor at the time of submission of the manuscript. Such clearance must include (a) name and location of study’s sponsor institution, (b) title and purpose of the study, (c) date(s) when the study was conducted, and (d) permission to publish results of the study*.
*[Note: If authors have valid reasons to not comply with this organizational clearance requirements, they are advised to address these issues specifically via a communication with the Editor giving justification of why such exemption should be granted.}
Addressing Quality Indicators
We expect, submitted manuscripts to specifically focus on health care delivery quality challenges faced by health care providers. These may include, enhancing patient’s safety, improving patient experience through better service, reducing costs of health care delivery, reducing medical errors, improving patient access to health care delivery; optimizing patient flow through process improvements, alignments, and better coordination among departments; adoption of information technology in improving health care delivery; data analysis, and information sharing to improve medical decision-making; and enhancing value of health care delivery.
Describing Models and Methodologies used in Analysis
We expect, submitted manuscript to clearly describe appropriate models and methodologies utilized to address the health care delivery problem. These may include, total quality management, quality function deployment, plan-do-check-act cycle, design for quality, health care provider accreditation; and statistical modeling, such as regression modeling, factor analysis, design of experiments; and optimization techniques, such as analytical hierarchy process, multi-criteria decision-making, linear and non-linear programming.

The Editorial Team is committed to helping authors improve the quality of their submissions to this journal. For this purpose, each manuscript at the time of submission, undergoes an initial desk review. It is Editor’s intention to inform authors about deficiencies in the manuscript that may either prevent its being sent out for a full review of peers or delay the review process, and to suggest how these could be overcome.
