Introduction
We welcome scholarly contributions on the potential benefits and challenges of harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be considered for the current special issue (SI) in the International Journal of Educational Management (IJEM).
The purpose of this SI is to collectively explore whether and how AI can enhance educational processes and support achievement of the SDGs. We are keen to receive submissions that feature voices, perspectives, and experiences of various stakeholders in higher education – including educators, students, employers, industry leaders, researchers, and policy makers.
The imperative for this special issue stems from a shared global commitment to enhance equity and excellence in higher education. Effective integration of AI technologies can potentially support the efforts of higher education institutions in achieving critical SDGs. For example, the appropriate use of AI technologies might contribute to enriching personalized learning experiences and to improving student engagement and learning outcomes in alignment with Quality Education (SDG4). AI-supported pedagogical tools and learning platforms, if ethically and effectively designed and delivered, have potential to promote equal learning opportunities and support the aim of reduced inequalities linked with SDG10.
This SI aims to make a significant contribution to the limited albeit growing knowledge base on the use of AI technologies in relation to SDGs in higher education. We welcome theoretical, empirical insights and case studies that elucidate how AI can be effectively, ethically, and morally integrated into educational activities and policies to promote implementation of SDGs. To suit the scope of IJEM, contributions should explicitly highlight implications for strategic management, governance, and/or leadership in harnessing AI to advance SDGs in higher education. Submissions will be made through the IJEM online submission system by 30 December 2024 and will go through a full peer review process of IJEM. Early submissions are welcome.
