Overview
Public sector corruption is a global problem, with a wide range of adverse effects across economies, societies, political systems and cultures. Its persistence in both established and developing democracies is not fully understood, especially as anticorruption laws and infrastructure have evolved over time with limited effectiveness in many locations.
The special issue seeks to address this issue by focusing on the topic of ‘what works’ in terms of new and emerging evidence. In particular, the editors are seeking papers on innovations in corruption prevention, including changes to laws, the creation of specialist anticorruption agencies, and the introduction of targeted opportunity reduction techniques.
In addition, the special issue seeks to more closely connect knowledge about causes and knowledge about prevention; and to explore issues of grey corruption – involving alleged minor, but often unfair and harmful, categories of corruption and areas of legal ambiguity.
In furthering these aims, the editors are looking for an international perspective, with in-depth case studies and jurisdictional comparisons.
