On Wednesday 20 September, Emerald held the 5th Knowledge Ambassadors Workshop at Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology and Agriculture (JKUAT) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Building on the successes of past workshops, this year saw attendance rise yet again and was the most well attended Knowledge Ambassador Day with 150 students and faculty members from institutions across the whole of Kenya attending. The workshop – now in its fifth year – began with presentations from Soji Koledade about Emerald and the Knowledge Ambassador Programme and from JKUAT faculty, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel O. Imbuga.

But the main purpose and highlight of the day were the students – the Knowledge Ambassadors of the future – to present their work in forms such as presentations, poems, short plays and songs. Students had to present on one of the following topics:

  • Importance of modern technological tools in research, teaching & learning – with attention to the future of Emerald
  • Issues of academic integrity
  • How can social media be used to enhance library services
  • Present on how you see the role of an Emerald Knowledge Ambassador developing in the next five years

Two universities won awards for their presentations and while another won for their institutions usage. The awards were won by the following institutions:
