Terms and conditions
These terms and conditions apply to all contracts for the sale of products and services by Emerald. Emerald is a trading name of Emerald Group Publishing Limited – Registered in England number 3080506. Emerald will sell and the customer shall acquire any product or service subject to these terms and conditions. Submitting the order form to Emerald will constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions by the customer.
1. Entering into a contract
1.1 Verbally making an order or submitting the subscription order (by e-mail, facsimile or otherwise) is an offer made by the customer to Emerald. The supply of samples of other literature or online information prior to the placing of the order by the customer does not form part of the contract.
1.2 Emerald may decide not to accept the customer’s offer. Only written confirmation (by e-mail, facsimile or otherwise) of the order by Emerald will constitute acceptance by Emerald of the customer’s offer.
1.3 Emerald will not be bound by any communication made to it by the customer and Emerald is entitled to reject any subscription order made by the customer.
2. Price and VAT
2.1 VAT at the applicable rate is due on print issues delivered within the EU and electronic services provided to customers located within the EU, unless a VAT exemption certificate is produced.
For non-UK EU business customers who are able to produce a valid VAT number, VAT may be zero rated, subject to the reverse charge, on portion of the invoice relating to electronic services provided outside the UK. For EU customers unable to provide a VAT number, VAT has been charged on the electronic services using the rate applicable to the country where the customer is located.
VAT may be zero rated provided delivery is to a non-EU address or service provided to a customer located outside the EU or South Africa.
2.2 Emerald reserves the right to change the price on the change of a rate of VAT or any change in VAT regulations.
All invoices must be paid within 28 days. Subscriptions are payable annually in advance. No online access will be available, nor will print issues dispatched until payment is received.
Journal issues are mailed 2nd class post within the UK (please allow at least 2-4 days for delivery), surface post to mainland Europe (please allow at least 7-14 days for delivery) and by air to the rest of the world (please allow at least 14-21 days for delivery).

5. Cancellation/refund policy
Cancellations will be accepted prior to the provision of online access or, where the subscription is to a product without online access, the dispatch of any issues, a full refund of any payment received will then be made. No refund will be made in any other circumstances. The subscription will be terminated at the end of the period to which the subscription relates.
6. Missing issue claims
6.1 Missing issue claims will be fulfilled if claimed within six months of the date of dispatch. Maximum of one claim per issue. For more information, see our journal dispatch and missing issues page.
6.2 To avoid unnecessary claims, please use Emerald’s dispatch schedule to view our journals’ scheduled publication dates.
7. Intellectual property
7.1 Copyright and all other intellectual property rights in all products and services sold by Emerald shall belong to and continue to belong to the owners of such rights, and the customer shall not obtain any such rights or interest in such rights by virtue of subscription to, or receipt of any product or service.
7.2 Electronic products and services utilize third party proprietary software to which all rights are reserved and for which limited license to use is granted.
8. Law and jurisdiction
The Contract shall in all respects be governed by and construed in accordance with English law and shall be deemed to have been made in England and the customer hereby agrees to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
