Why publish with us?

Who we are

Image: Researchers.Emerald has been publishing research in business and management and the social sciences for over half a century, with over 2,600 books and 300 journals spanning a range of disciplines.

Recently, Emerald has invested in a major new academic and professional book programme designed to bring the very latest ideas and approaches to global universities, researchers, students and practitioners.

With our large backlist, and over 300 new titles publishing each year, we provide high quality, cutting-edge research across a range of subjects.

Our books add depth to research and learning, featuring groundbreaking research, case studies and advice from global thought leaders, helping to drive change in their field.

Benefits of publishing with us – whoever you are

Whether you are an early career researcher or an established scholar, we strive to provide continual support throughout your career.

Early career researchers

We aim to support the work of early career researchers, who are the lifeblood of the fields in which we publish. Our experienced publishing team will support you through the publishing process every step of the way – from proposal, to peer review, to submission, through production and publication – in the interests of publishing the best new research.

Established scholars

We appreciate that established scholars are under a lot of pressure – expected to research, write, teach, publish, and provide services to the field, all at the same time. As a publisher, we want to publish the very best new research, but we also see it as part of our role to support our authors and editors as their careers develop. We can offer advice on editing a collection of essays, peer review best practices and how best to optimize impact.

Flexible formats

We offer multiple publishing formats, with flexible time frames to find the right home for your work, including scholarly monographs, edited collections, short form books, handbooks and professional texts. We publish for scholarly and professional markets and all our books are published electronically and in print with the option of open access for all. In addition, our renowned series collections include comprehensive coverage in Scopus and the Book Citation Index, demonstrating measurable research impact.

Author testimonials

Icon: testimonial."I'd like to thank Emerald for all the time, help and support in the recent publication of National Identity and Europe in Times of Crisis. The finished book looks great, and (as an author team) we’re really proud of it. The entire process went exceptionally smoothly - it was a real pleasure to work with Emerald!"

– Christian Karner, University of Nottingham; co-editor (with Monika Kopytowska) of National Identity and Europe in Times of Crisis

Icon: testimonial.“Working together with Emerald on the production of this book has been a positive, pleasant and pain-free experience! From the moment we discussed our initial ideas and submitted a proposal, to the printed book being released, the staff at Emerald have been attentive and supportive throughout the whole process. The speed with which Kim Chadwick (Education Commissioning Editor) and her colleagues have been able to turn around the publication of our book has really impressed us, as indeed has their enthusiasm for promoting it. We have never had to chase them for anything and nothing has ever been too much trouble. If you’re thinking about publishing a book, we would thoroughly recommend working with Emerald!”

– Matt O’Leary and Amanda French, Birmingham City University; Editors of Teaching Excellence in Higher Education

Icon: testimonial."I have had a terrific experience working with Emerald. Not only did they put me through an excellent review process for a book proposal (which was successful), they also did so quickly and stayed in touch at all stages of the process. Even better was when they went on to propose that I follow up with a book series, which has equally yielded positive results. With dedicated editors in specific areas who clearly know their subject, their readers and their markets, Emerald is a joy to work with."

– Professor Tom O'Donoghue, Co-Editor of Emerald Studies in Teacher Preparation in National and Global Contexts; University of Western Australia

Icon: testimonial.“Everyone with whom I worked at Emerald from the senior editor to marketing was highly professional. The copy edits were done in a timely manner and the cover design exceeded expectations. Due to my exceptionally positive experience, I hope to work with Emerald again on future books.”

– H. Kent Baker, Professor of Finance, American University, Kogod School of Business; author of Investment Traps Exposed

Icon: testimonial.“I am delighted to be working with a publisher who has really listened and responded to my concerns and wishes for my upcoming book. Emerald holds a fresh vision, inviting new ways of thinking about gerontological research, writing, and the social sciences, in general. I am proud to say I am an Emerald author.”

– Naomi Woodspring, Research Fellow, University of the West of England, UK; author of forthcoming Baby Boomers, Age and Beauty
