Site updates and feedback

We launched the all new Emerald Publishing website in April 2020 with you at the heart of its design. Whether you’re an author, librarian, student, professional, or just have a thirst for knowledge, we hope you find what you’re looking for and that it meets (or even exceeds) your expectations.

We’re always looking at ways to improve your experience with us and therefore welcome any feedback; you can do this by clicking the blue ‘feedback’ tab on the right-hand side of each page.

As the site evolves, we plan to share updates with you about latest deployments, new features and content. If you have any thoughts and ideas on enhancements you would like us to consider, we encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas with us via the feedback tab on the right, so we ensure your needs at front and centre of everything we do.

Find out more about our web journey so far, what’s coming up, as well as our thoughts for the future in this section. And if you have time, please share your comments with us before you leave!

Challenge 1: Understand you!

Our first challenge was understanding you all! We collated everything we thought we knew, overlaid it with latest insight, then started bottom up, creating simple and easy user journeys. From this we created four key user journeys, centred around your desire to either use content, submit content, purchase content, or find out more about us. Go to the hompage, select your user type and need to start your journey through the site. And please, let us know how you get on!

Challenge 2: Retaining our key content

The second challenge came with the realisation that we needed to re-work all the content from the previous site, to sit within the new user-focused journeys. The outcome, is a significantly streamlined site that condenses an original 14,000 pages (think 10 copies of ‘War and Peace’) into 1,500 (One copy of ‘Gone with The Wind’)! Rather than delete all the original pages however, we have kept them, and they can be accessed in the ‘Archive’ section of the new site. The Archive is, quite literally, a storage space of the old content, in its original format, making it easy for you to see when you have entered this area. If there’s something in the Archive that you think should be in the core content, please do let us know.

Challenge 3: Optimising the site

The third challenge came when we tried to overlay user needs, with Google preferences and business goals. This spurred numerous debates, until we agreed the only way to achieve our goal of creating an enjoyable user experience,is to put the user first, so that’s exactly what we did! As a result, we hope that you find the site to be easy to use, simple and clear, and most of all enjoyable. If you’re not 100% satisfied with the site, we are always open to listening to your feedback and aim to evolve the site in line with evolving use needs over over the coming years.

The milestones...

Site Launch

April 2020

On 28 April, we launched the all-new Emerald Publishing website, with a focus on usability, accessibility and simplicity for the user.

The feedback...

We gave the journal landing pages a makeover, complete with bold ‘buttons’ at the top half of the page with direct links to submit, for example. We also incorporated a news section so that these pages work better to provide what you need.

We overhauled our approach to imagery, replacing what were often out-dated pictures, with more stylish, authentic and consistent use of imagery. Large images are used at the top of all key pages, with a scrolling image on the homepage to provide you with an overview of what we’ve got insite.
