Emerald humbled to win ProQuest IPG 2018 Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year Award

Among other achievements, accolade given at the UK’s biggest annual celebration of independent publishing recognizes success of new books and Open Access programmes

Bingley, United Kingdom, 9 March 2018 – We are delighted and humbled to have won Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year at the 2018 IPG Independent Publishing Awards.

Launched in 2007 and run by the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG), the Independent Publishing Awards are the UK’s biggest annual celebration of independent publishing. The awards reward outstanding achievement in different sectors and aspects of publishing.

This was the first time that Emerald Publishing had entered the IPG Awards.

The judges praised Emerald for achievements in our 50th anniversary last year, such as: our universally well-received rebrand; the outstanding success of the books publishing programme; the enhancements to the research platform; and the respective launches of an Author Hub and Emerald Reach, our Open Access programme.

The judges said: “Emerald is a big company now, but it’s stayed nimble and responsive to customers.

“What it’s achieved in the last year is very impressive.”

Caitlin Cornish, Head of Books Publishing at Emerald, said: “I am delighted that we have won this prestigious award in our 50th anniversary year and off the back of the launch of our new books programme.  To be recognized by our publishing peers in this way, is a great honour.”

“It’s also a very welcome acknowledgement of the great strides Emerald is making in terms of our books programme and services to our communities, such as our improved research platform, new author services and Emerald Reach. We’ll continue to strive to provide the very best service for our authors, and to publish quality research with real impact.”

We would like to congratulate fellow nominees Boydell & Brewer, Class Publishing, Edward Elgar Publishing (last year’s winner), and Kogan Page for the respective achievements that saw them shortlisted.

The IPG Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year award comes hot on the heels of a coveted PROSE award for The Century of Science: The Global Triumph of the Research University edited by Justin J. W. Powell David P. Baker and Frank Fernandez and published by Emerald.
