FARU 2017

December's FARU (Faculty of Architecture Research Unit) conference was themed around design that cares, a multi-disciplinary approach to making built environments sustainable and meaningful. The importance of this theme was evidenced by the 136 papers presented, each providing key insights into the trajectory of the multi-disciplinary research surrounding the built environment
The conference was truly global, with a wide range of participating countries Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States, India, China, Bangladesh and Australia to name a few.

The conference was also fortunate enough to International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment’s Dilanthi Anarathunga! Papers presented by the keynote, guest speakers and authors of FARU 2017 are available in the proceedings and can be downloaded from  http://www.mrt.ac.lk/foa/faru2017/

IJDRBE sponsored three awards for important papers presented at the conference. These awards went to:

Nayana R Singh, Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti and Ajay Khare for “Disaster risk reduction through the learning of traditional knowledge of built heritage: a case of village – Bagori, Uttarkashi, India” 
Winner of the Best paper Award

Datta. U and Mandal. D for “Creating blue network: a solution to the present water logging transportation problem for the Dhaka Metropolitan area”
Winner of the Highly Commended Paper Award

Chandrasekara Tilanka and Herbert. P for “Emergency preparedness in the hospitality industry in Sri Lanka”
Winner of the Highly Commended Paper Award

These papers, and other extended papers from FARU 2017 Proceedings in disaster management and resilience areas are invited to publish in a Special Issue of International Journal of Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment - in early 2018.
