Maximize your potential and compete with the brightest minds in Africa

Emerald and the Association of African Business Schools (AABS) are delighted to announce the winners of the 2017-2018 Emerald/AABS Case Study Competition.

This year again saw a record number of submissions of a very high quality. The winners were announced at the AABS Connect Conference on 20-22 May 2018, at University of Dar es Salaam Business School, Tanzania and we were delighted that some of the winners could be there.

First place – Ali Choucri, Anne Dietterich, Victoria Gillern & Julia Ivy, School of Business, Northeastern University for "Expansion decision: HC Securities and Investment"

Second place – Kerry Chipp & Jabu Maphalala, University of Technology, Gordon Institute of Business Science for "When Elephants Fight: South African Washing Powder Wars"

Third place – Stephanie Giamporcaro & David Leslie, Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town for "Responsible investment at Old Mutual: a case of institutional entrepreneurship"

The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality teaching case material derived from real life situations in Africa.

With the rise of experiential learning, case studies remain a fundamental teaching tool in every subject area within the business school discipline. Those cases with a local focus are critical to developing business school curriculum in the emerging economies; Emerald and the AABS are devoted to developing high-quality cases focused on the African region.

The 2018-2019 Emerald/AABS Case Study Competition will be launched on Wednesday 1 August 2018, so please check back here then. Also check our Emerald Africa Facebook page for more details.
