Call for Papers

This special issue seeks papers that theorise and/or empirically examine the role of vocational education and training in human capital formation. The major aim of this special issue is to establish an interface of theory between the largely separate research fields of human capital (outputs) and training and development (inputs). The potential synergies between these areas are enormous and could launch a whole series of debates rejuvenating each ‘side’ of the equation. The central theme of how training and development policy and practice addresses the need to develop human capital for future labour market needs can be deconstructed into, but is not limited to, several sub themes:

•    Human capital theory, policy and practice
•    Human capital development and retention issues
•    Education, training and human capital formation in different contexts
•    Forecasting human capital, future skills needs and skills mismatches
•    The future of work and employment in the 4th Industrial Revolution
•    Competence, validation, accreditation and qualifications

The guest editors particularly encourage papers on the above themes and would be happy to discuss potential contributions with prospective authors.

Submission Process and Timeline

Papers submitted for consideration must be based on original material and must not be under consideration by any other journal or publishing outlet. The guest editors will select 5-6 papers to be included in the Special Issue, but other submissions may be considered for regular issues of the journal. All papers will undergo the regular double-blind reviewing process and will also be reviewed by one of the Special Issue editors.

To be considered for the Special Issue, manuscripts can be submitted up until the deadline no later than 30th June 2019 at 5:00pm (Central European Time). All papers submitted for consideration will be evaluated on the following:
•    The theoretical contribution: Does the article offer novel and innovative insights and/or meaningfully extend existing theory in the field Human Capital, vocational education and training?
•    The Empirical contribution: Does the article offer novel findings through design, analysis, and results? E.g. How does the study enhance the current understanding on the relationship between Human Capital, vocational education and training?
•    The Practical implication: Does the article improve the management of human capital development? What are the implications for HRM policies and practice?

Potential contributors should prepare their manuscripts for double blind review according to the European Journal of Training and author guidelines available at: http://emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/journals/author_guidelines.htm?id=ejtd
Manuscripts can be submitted electronically at: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ejtd
