Aims and Scope

The recent years have been characterized by growing demands in the fields of innovative sensor systems and their design. Future needs rely on such sensor systems to measure and process information relating to any hazardous events, chemical and biochemical processes, as well as efficient uses of resources. In addition, the design of such sensor systems has to follow restrictions and security measurements. It has to be smart, highly interconnected, communicating and simultaneously secure.

With this Special Issue on "Innovative Sensor Systems” we address current research, latest techniques, and applications on the design, construction, characterization, and use of innovative sensor systems for identifying and analyzing chemical and biochemical substances in gas, air, water, and food, for detecting hazardous circumstances, as well as for using resources efficiently and sustainably.

The main, but not limited topics of interest are

  • Innovative measurement principles
  • New sensor technologies
  • Data-driven analysis of sensors
  • Security solutions of sensors
  • Gas sensors for monitoring and process control
  • Sensors expanding human capabilities
  • Improving measurement capabilities of existing sensor systems
  • Development of new application fields by combining of existing sensors

Author submission deadline is 31 January, 2019

How to submit

All submissions to Sensor Review should be through ScholarOne Manuscripts. Registration and access are available at:

Author guidelines must be strictly followed. Please see:

Submitted articles must not have been previously published, nor should they be under consideration for publication anywhere else, while under review for this journal.

The Guest Editors will conduct an initial screening of submitted papers. Those judged suitable for the special issue will be sent to at least two independent referees for double blind peer review, after which submissions may be recommended for revisions and further review, acceptance or rejection.

Interested authors should select (from the drop-down menu) the special issue “Innovative Sensor Systems” at the appropriate step in the submission process, i.e. in response to “Please select the issue you are submitting to”.
