Call for Papers for a Thematic Issue

“Ten Years of Airbnb”

 

State of the art, cutting-edge research and controversial issues. 

A disruptive innovation launched ten years ago by visionary founders Chesky and Gebbia, this successful startup of the sharing economy has reshaped the hospitality landscape in many destinations offering peer-to-peer accommodations ranging from a shared airbed to a luxury  villa. Strongly based on trust, this smartly designed accommodation alternative has been acknowledged as a bless for many homeowners in search for an alternative source of income  and as a curse by cities and their residents for its effect on the housing market that lists higher rents and drives up real estate prices.

The International Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research is currently preparing a thematic issue on “Airbnb.”  This special call aims at attracting research notes and full papers from prospective authors interested in publishing state-of-the-art, cutting-edge research and controversial contributions addressing the various facets of the Airbnb phenomenon. The main objective is to deepen and broaden our understanding of the impact and relevance of Airbnb in tourism and hospitality with attention to various aspects of marketing, management, urban planning and economics and with consideration of the cultural and behavioral factors related to this peculiar business of “homesharing.”

In this special thematic issue on “Ten Years of Airbnb” the Editors of the International Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research encourage potential contributors to explore and examine the following topics:

  • Cultural and Consumer Behavior Issues of Airbnb in different contexts, various natural and business environments, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Airbnb and its Marketing, Communication and Advertising: from segmentation to booking, from peer-to-peer trust and reputation to reviews, and related topics.
  • Airbnb & Real Estate: investments and capital, rentals destabilization, changes in market prices and related issues.
  • The responses of the lodging industry, the challenges for urban development and the legal reactions to Airbnb market advancement.

Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief or the Associate Editors regarding potential topics of interest for contributions to this thematic issue.

 

Submissions:

Papers submitted must not have been published, accepted for publication, or be under review for publication elsewhere.

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the journal’s “Submission  Guidelines” and submitted through ScholarOne Manuscripts at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijcthr

Revisions and Final decision:  25th – 30th of October 2018
Submission deadline for Full paper:  30th of September 2018
First decision for Full Papers:  25th of October 2018
Revisions and Final decision:  13th – 23rd of November 2018

Expected publication of the thematic issue: First issue of 2019

Early submissions of research notes and full papers are encouraged and will be promptly processed by the editors.
