Special issue call for papers from Management Decision

The business of business in the 21st century organization is dependent upon leveraging high quality large data and talent analytics throughout its value chain process in knowledge management for successful firm performance. The ‘Big Data’ has created a wave across the globe and the business leaders have started believing in it as it help them know - how do investment in employees affect performance at individual, group and organizational level?. It is believed that if an organization wants better performance from its top employees – who happens to be greatest assets and largest expenses – it is imperative for the organization to leverage analytics over the gut instincts (Davenport, Harris, and Shapiro, 2010). Exploiting vast large data has potential for radically improve firm performance; however, the firm needs to change your decision-making culture (McAfee and Brynjolfsson, 2012).

The big data has high level operational and strategic potential towards business value creation as ‘big data’ is considered as the ‘next big thing in innovation’ (Gobble, 2013). The big data can create actionable ideas for delivering sustained value,measuring performance and establishing competitive advantages (Fosso, Akter, Edwards, Chopin, and Gnanzou, 2015) as the Big Data Analytics (BDA0 allows for improved data-driven decision making and innovative ways to organize, learn and innovate (Yiu, 2012). The big data analytics capability is considered as a game changer and it has been found to impact directly and indirectly to the firm performance (Wamba, Gunasekaran, Akter, Ren, Dubey and Childe, 2017). 

However, the relevance of organizational dimensions namely strategies, culture, etc. has largely been ignored (Xuemie, 2017). Similarly, the organizational value creation by using business analytics is dependent upon the roles played by the organizational decision-making processes, including resource allocation processes and resource orchestration processes (Helfat, Finkelstein, Mitchell and Singh, 2007; Teece, 2009) which requires deeper understanding. Furthermore, the acceptance and successful implementation of the business data analytics (BDA) depends upon the level of influence and participation that subordinates and key stakeholders have on a decision-making processes in the organizations (Vroom and Yetton, 1973). 

The aforementioned literature on big data vis-a-vis Strategic agility and firm performance suggests to the need for brining out special issue as much has to explored in the fast changing 21st century. This Special Issue on “Big Data Analytics, Dynamic Capabilities and Firm Performance” in Management Decision has envisaged following areas, but not restricted to, where empirical papers are sought that offer thorugh a robust methodological perspective and enquiry into: 

  • Arresting knowledge hiding behaviors and big data analytics 
  • Big data-driven decision making culture
  • Collaborative organizational practices and big data
  • Creating value from business analytics
  • Data driven organizational culture, knowledge management and business performance
  • Firm absorptive capacity and big data
  • Innovation, knowledge creation and bid data analytics
  • Knowledge management strategy and firm competitiveness 
  • Knowledge management, organizational agility and big data
  • Management of knowledge workers and big data analyticcs 
  • Organizational ambidexterity and big data analytics
  • Organizational design, productivity and big data analytics
  • People analytics and knowledge management   
  • Radical or incremental firm innovation through large data 
  • Sharpening firm’s innovation capability through business analytics
  • Smarter business decisions and analytics at work
  • Stakehodlers’ participation in decision-making and business data analytics
  • Technology, strategy and big data

Guidelines on Paper Submission:

The papers submitted for this Special Issue of the Management Decision (MD) will initially be desk reviewed by a Guest Editor and when found suitable, it will be assigned for rigorous review by a qualified team of academicians. Successful papers in this Special Issue should demnostrate strong academic discourse combined with robust methodological approach will be consididered during the peer review processes. Needless to say, all works submmitted to this SI in Management Decision need to be original.
