Special issue call for papers from Journal of Asia Business Studies

Asia represents an exciting business opportunities for organizations across the globe as it offers varied socio-economic canvas to local, national and global firms to be integral part of its growth story. At the same time, we witness huge variations in structural and cultural context in Asia as it covers countries from being underdeveloped to posses potential to emerge as world super power. As a result, internal organizational architecture and business strategies which works best in the western world need to be reconfigure and implemented to suit well with high context Asian culture. The firms need to demonstrate capability to combiine global integration and national responsiveness as propounded by Prahalad and Doz (1987) and Bartlett and Ghoshal (1989) holds true across the political geography and the Asian countries are no exception to it. Furthermore, the rise of China and India as an emerging global power centres has led to to shift of the balance of power from the Europe and the USA to Asia (de Guzmana, Neelankavil and Sengupta, 2011) and many multinational exterprises (MNEs) have made Asia as their operational base.

Such a situation has led to varied opportunities and challenges being experienced by regional level organizations in Asian context wherein they do not compete amongst themselves but with the MNEs. Therefore, for the organizations – local, regional, and multinational – to compete effectively in Asian context, the leaders and the managers need to to apply knowledge of cultural and contextual parameters in designing and implementing startegies, process and people management architecture for overall business growth. Organizations use HR practies to direct employee behaviors to achieve their strategic objectives (Jiang, Lepak, Hu, and Baer, 2012; Messersmith, Patel, Lepak, and Gould-Williams, 2011). Such is a close linkage between the high-performance work systems (HPWS) and firm performance (FP) that if HPWS is increased by one standard deviation, there is 0.20 standard deviation in firm perfomance (Combs, Liu, Hall, and Ketchen, 2006). Furthermore, the sustainable competitive advantage of the firms (local as well as global) having base in India and China – the emerging world super power – requires them to become employer of choice (Foster and Harris, 2005; Ng and Burke, 2005) through organizational cultural architecture wherein workforce diversity is valued and well integrated through fair employment practices (Cox 1993; Kaplan, Wiley and Maertz, 2011; Mor Barak, Cherin and Berkman, 1998).

It is in this context that a Special Issue (SI) on “Managing organizations and business in Asia” has been conceptualized adress pressing problems being confronted by organizations in Asia. This SI in Journal of Asia Business Studies (JABS) welcomes high quality conceptual, empirical and literature review papers as envisaged in the following areas, but not restricted to:

Guidelines on Paper Submission:

The papers submitted for this Special Issue of the Journal of Asia Business Studies (JABS) will initially be desk reviewed by a Guest Editor(s) and when found suitable, it will be assigned for rigorous review. Needless to say, all works submmitted to this SI in Journal of Asia Business Studies need to be original.
