Brexit, The Trump Effect and De-globalization

Special issue call for papers from Journal of International Trade Law and Policy

Guest Editors:

James Hartigan and Joe McMahon

The referendum on British exit from the European Union, the election of Donald J. Trump to the presidency of the United States, the increase in popularity of right wing political parties across Europe, the demise of the Trans Pacific Partnership and the proposed tweaking of existing trade agreement have called into question the existing architecture of international political and economic institutions.

We seek papers that address the legal process by which signatories of agreements and members of organizations may disengage, while preserving or modifying those provisions that retain a consensus of value. We seek papers that measure the economic consequences of de-globalization, both for members and signatories, as well as, non-participants. We seek papers that explore the politics of de-globalization, including preservation of existing agreements and withdrawal.
